Where
is the site?
The Guadalupe Restoration Project
is located at the coast, west of the city of Guadalupe, along the
southern edge of San Luis Obispo County. The Santa Maria River flows
through the southern edge of the site.
Where
is the oil?
Over the years, diluent was inadvertently discharged at the former
Guadalupe Oil Field. There are approximately 90 separate-phase (or
"free product") and dissolved-phase diluent
plumes.
Why
don't you just dig it all up?
The Guadalupe oil field is a rich dune habitat, home to a variety
of threatened and endangered species. A key challenge is to eliminate
potential damage to the environment while protecting sensitive habitats
and species.
